It depends largely on the space and how it is broken up. A large open ballroom , for example, might take the same amount of time as a small residence with rooms and hallways. For real estate applications, we usually figure on taking about 30-45 minutes to scan each 1,000 square feet, so a typical 2,000 square foot home can be scanned in about 60 to 90 minutes.

Matterport specs suggest that a model can contain up to 200 scans. and approximately 10,000 square feet. This serves as a good guideline, but we have crerated a model consisting of 365 scans and a space that was over 17,500 sq ft. For residential properties, 200 scans are sufficient to build models up to approximately 10,000 square feet. The exact square footage will vary depending on the layout of the property and furniture.

The Matterport Pro 3D Camera is designed for indoor use. Direct sunlight can interfere with data collection. That being said, there are some situations where we can scan external spaces such as gardens and patios when there is no direct sunlight (such as at dawn or dusk). We can also create 2D images outdoors using a technology from Matterport called 360 Views.
